The San Bernardino Community College District has been awarded the Good Government Award from the Building Industry Association of Southern California Baldy View Chapter in recognition for creating a career fair to connect job seekers with employers. In a one-day career fair about 85 job seekers were able to secure jobs with members of the Building Industry Association Baldy View Chapter. Chancellor Bruce Baron, Board of Trustees President Joseph Williams, Trustee Frank Reyes and officials of SBCCD’s Economic Development & Corporate Training division received the award on December 7 at the BIA’s annual charity gala held at the Sheraton Fairplex Hotel in Pomona.
“We are honored to collaborate with organizations like the BIA to bring industry standards to the classroom so that our students are ready for the workplace on day one,” said Chancellor Baron. “We dedicate this award to our hard-working students, the future builders, and leaders of our region.”
The BIA Baldy View Chapter had requested career services from the Economic Development and Corporate Training (EDCT) Division of the San Bernardino Community College District to assist with connecting job seekers with their members. EDCT put together a career fair in a 6-week project that included organizing the event, promoting it, and hosting it on September 29. Over 85 job seekers walked away with jobs.
In addition to the BIA, EDCT partners with trade unions and regional workforce development boards to meet the workforce needs of Inland Southern California. EDCT creates customized training programs for employers as well as training for unemployed or under-employed. EDCT is part of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship
(IE) Accelerator to bring a makerspace to the San Bernardino area. The EDCT Division offers a variety of advanced skill upgrade trainings such as, forklift, HVAC, welding, CNC machining, Microsoft Office software, and much more.
